Hey there! So, I’ve been super busy lately, trying to make my way into the games journalism industry. It’s been a wild ride, and I’d like to keep a journal of my thoughts and experiences here.

I’ve been chatting with indie game developers and posting videos online, along with written articles based on the interviews on my Patreon. I’m sticking with this format for now, but I’m also going to try and leave some notes here regularly. They’ll mostly be about my thoughts on the games I’m playing (maybe it’ll help me with my review videos), and anything and everything else related to my video production on YouTube.

First Impressions: South of Midnight Hooks You Early, But Will It Hold Up?

I have to be very careful with how I spend money on newly released games because there are a lot of them coming out this year, and unfortunately, I have limited resources—both financially and time-wise. South of Midnight grabbed my attention the moment I saw its first trailer. South of Midnight Isn’t Afraid to Break Your Heart

I played South of Midnight a bit more the other night—I'm now, I believe, in the middle of Chapter 5. I'm still thoroughly enjoying the game, and I'm also starting to get a better sense of how deep the combat really is. But in this post, I want to talk about something else. I love how South of Midnight doesn’t shy away from telling tragic stories.   In what is probably the first proper all-hands-on-deck mission, you learn about the story of Benjy and his brother Rhubarb. I won’t spoil anything here, but I just want to note two things: The story itself is incredibly deep and touching. It definitely made an impression on me—especially as a special-ed teacher. The way the story is told was simply marvellous. I truly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to continuing the game, but I think I’m going to wait a few days. South of Midnight: A Game About Monsters—And the Ones We Carry

I finished South of Midnight last night, clocking in at about 13 hours from start to finish. I did end up taking a break for a few days because playing a game like this on the train using my ROG Ally X just didn’t feel quite right. When I first booted up South of Midnight , I had no idea what I was getting into—zero expectations. All I knew was that the visuals looked different and the Deep South setting seemed fascinating to explore. I mentioned this in my previous post, and having now fully experienced a brand-new game this way (going in completely blind, not watching any reviews or impressions), I know I’ll be doing the same thing again going forward—especially with new releases. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is being released in a few hours and, apart from the trailers, I haven’t seen or read anything about it. But back to South of Midnight .
